This is a prototype model of a newly
discovered feathered tyrannosoid, Dilong Paradoxus. It was created by Alan
Groves of Art Dinouveau for a new book on Feathered Dinosaurs by Chris
Sloan of National Geographic in conjunction with publishing house Simon &
Schuster. The consulting scientists for this project were Professor Xu
Xing of the Beijing Natural History Museum and Professor Mark Norell of
the New York Natural History Museum. "Scientist Xu Xing and colleagues
found the tyrannosauroid, an early relative of T. rex, in Liaoning
province in China. The species, named Dilong paradoxus, provides the first
direct fossil evidence that tyrannosauroids had hairlike primitive
feathers." This model was created over an eight week period using fossil
reference material, an illustration drawing by Portia Sloan and the colour
scheme was suggested by Chris Sloan. This dinosaur model is now available
for purchase at a price of $US8,000.
